Back to School Lunch Ideas!

Looking for school lunch ideas?? Look no further than your local West Milford Farmer's Market! Follow this helpful guide in assembling a healthy, balance lunch for your kiddos:

1. Pick a main dish:

  • Cream cheese & cucumber sandwich

  • Veggie roll up

  • Chicken or egg salad sandwich (try leftovers from Hope Cress)

  • Cheese & meat sandwich

  • Homemade Salad!

2. Choose a Fruit:

  • Peaches

  • Apples!

  • Watermelon or honeydew

  • Plums

  • Ground Cherries (Super sweet, ask Ideal)

3. Choose a Veggie:

  • Beets

  • Peppers

  • Broccoli

  • Carrots

  • Cherry Tomatoes

  • Pickles- they totally count as veggies..

Send them with a favorite snack or sweet treat, like a honey stick from Top of the Mountain! Their favorite part of the day will be the lunch you prepared from the local vendors!


Happy September

This is our second week accepting Ample Harvest Donations! Volunteers will bring all donations to a local food pantry later this week! Last week, the ladies at Strengthen Our Sisters were so grateful for the fresh squash, cucumbers, peaches, and pears that were donated to Ample Harvest.

Ina at Bagtivist will be back this week and so is Greg from Hope Cress Farms! Get your meats, fresh veggies, and vibrant micro-greens this week! Ideal and RH Farms have a surprise in store for our customers.. its Apple Season! It's time to get excited about apple pie and warm apple cider! We're definitely stocking up this week! Maple syrup pairs perfectly with apple cinnamon pancakes, and maple lemonade is great at any time during the day!

We're going to miss Woodside Blue Preserves and Jersey Girl Cheese at our market, but its back to school time for teachers too! If you're craving some homemade jam or farm fresh cheese, visit our website for all the info on where to get products from all of our vendors when they're not at the market!


Eggplant Season is Upon Us!

Join us from 3-7pm Wednesday August 21 and pick up some eggplants! Its Eggplant season! Get different varieties of Eggplants from RH, Ideal and Hope Cress! While you're at it, why not make a whole dinner around eggplant? Fry some eggplant and top a bar pie from Pie Eyed with it! Or Pick up some cheese from Jersey Girl and make eggplant Parmesan (please share with WMFM committee members)! Stop by Tasty Bites for some zesty sauces to slather on grilled eggplant! You'll be eating eggplant for days!

Agust 14 brings Bags and Jams!

Thank you to Bernie Stapleton and the Music at the Mission organization in their generous donation to support the WMFM music program! We are so grateful for all of the performers who visit the market and for Bernie for creating the stage! Thank you! This week Dani Zanoni is playing from 3:30-5:30pm!

BAGTIVIST is back! Bring any size old t-shirt and Ina can create a one-of-a-kind reusable bag for you! Ina's mission is to save the planet from plastic bags by reusing something we already have at home: t-shirts! In less than the time it takes you to eat an empanada, she can create a beautiful bag for you, free of charge! You can carry your squash from Ideal, honey from Top of the Mountain, Frog Jam from Woodside, and purple cauliflower from Hope Cress in one bag! Committee members already had ours made, so join the crew and bring a t-shirt this week!

Don't forget your reusable shopping bags and t-shirts!

First August Market

Happy August! Here come the dog days of summer.. beat the heat with refreshing melons from Hope Cress farms or Ideal, quench your thirst with a sweet and sour maple lemonade from Our Woods Maple, and fill up on a crisp empanada from the Empanada Lady! The white peaches at RH Farms have been the talk of the market since week one, they're a must try! Meet us at the Kids Korner for another fun, high-flying, colorful craft!

July 3rd Market!

Happy July 4th weekend! Stop by the farmer's market for all of your BBQ needs! We have pickles for your burgers, flowers for your table, Jersey Sweet Corn for the sides and fresh beef for your grill. Don't forget to save room for dessert; pick up some homemade fudge, sweet and sticky honey to glaze over your fresh Jersey peaches, or toss some dessert empanadas in the oven! Bring the kids for red, white, and blue theme crafts at the Kids Korner and celebrate with our musician for the week, Ron Renninger!

Whats Happening June 26????

This week the Kids Korner is back and Judy is bringing Farmer'sMarket Bingo - 2 ways! Kids can collect Bingo stickers from all the vendors or play under the Kids Korner Tent and win a prize! Moms, try something new as you make your way around the market! Tony Penn is our musician from 4-6pm! We'll have tons of your favorite farm fresh goodies this week so bring those reusable shopping bags!

We're open 3-7pm every Wednesday at the West Milford Presbyterian Church at 1452 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ. Fuzzy Friends are allowed to walk around the market, not through it, due to board of health regulations.

Are you excited about tomatoes, corn and peaches? Well, they are Jersey specialities, and yes, we still have farm fresh options for all of the above from local vendors, plus so much more at Market this week. Keep reading to learn more.

Here's who will be at the market this week:

Part Time vendors:

Designs by Cindy Lou has handmade clothes for kids--great for back-to-school, or for just rounding out a summer wardrobe.

This week we will have local quilter, Shirley, joining us at Market with her handmade wares.

Jennifer Davis with The Chelsea at Bald Eagle will be at our sponsor table discussing their different care options at their picturesque West Milford location, including independent and assisted living, and memory care.

   

Our featured vendor for 8/9: 

West Milford Confection Connection Carrie Longacre has a variety of gluten-free, vegan and nut-free treats in addition to her traditional selections. This week she has thumbprint drop cookies, filled with either strawberry balsamic, or raspberry chambord filling.

Whats new this week:

Peace & Carrots has all of your favorite in-season greens, plus so much more. They will have heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and Roma tomatoes this week.

Ideal Farms In addition to their great vegetables, they still have peaches, blueberries and cherries. Also check out their artisan breads and amish cheese.

Pie Eyed Bar Pies has homemade soups, ready-to-heat dinners, as well as their famous pizza pies. Try their homemade mozzarella and homemade burrata, a creamy cheese filled fresh mozzarella.

Pickle Licious has a variety of ways to enjoy pickles, garlic and olives. Try their sweet pickles this week.


Top Of The Mountain Honey carries a variety of local honey each week. This week, try their all-natural bee pollen for better health.


Empanada Lady From sweet to savory, the Empanada Lady has the best, most authentic empanadas around. Discover this week’s specials: Steak and cheese, veggie, and pizza empanadas.

Corbett Cookie Bar Kitchen is showcasing their peach cinnamon, peach blueberry, and peach bourbon bars this week.

Market Highlights for 8/2

August is here!  And the market is hopping.  Looks like tomatoes are finally coming into season, and we're starting to see our non-farming vendors take advantage of all the abundance, with delectable treats made from local, in season produce. 

Here's who will be at the market this week:

Part Time vendors:

Kim O'Hara is a Ceramic Jewelry Artist from Sparta NJ. She specializes in Nature Themed and Rustic Ornate styles.

Designs by Cindy Lou has handmade clothes for kids--great for back-to-school, or for just rounding out a summer wardrobe.

Sue Vanover joins us this week with high-quality Young Living essential oils

Ol' Darlin' is featuring their everything lavender line--spray, bath body and massage oil, lavender coconut hand and body salt scrub, lavender roll on, soap... everything lavender... Those of you who garden may also be interested in checking out their healing jewelweed salve. 

   

Our featured vendor for 8/2:  

Simply Planted, a retail and wholesale greenhouse, carries high-quality annual and perennial plants and combination containers. Try their drop and grow combinations this week, and please check out their vendor spotlight, here.

 

Whats new this week:

MP Knives can sharpen all of your knives and more! Ever wish your lawn mower blades weren't so dull?  MP Knives can fix that!  Yup, they sharpen mower blades, too.

Ideal Farms In addition to all their lovely vegetables, they have donuts, peaches, blueberries, fresh garlic, melons, and of course their famous corn.

West Milford Confection Connection Carrie Longacre has a variety of gluten-free, vegan and nut-free treats in addition to her traditional selections. This week try her vegan carrot cake!

Pie Eyed Bar Pies has homemade soups, ready-to-heat dinners, as well as their famous pizza pies. Try their homemade burrata, a creamy cheese filled fresh mozzarella, as well as eggplant and chicken parm dinners ready to take home and heat.

Pickle Licious has a variety of ways to enjoy pickles, garlic and olives. Try their sweet horseradish flavored pickles this week.

Top Of The Mountain Honey carries a variety of local honey each week. This week try their mixed berry flavor honey.

Empanada Lady: From sweet to savory, the Empanada Lady has the best, most authentic empanadas around.  This week, try their traditional veggie samosas with peas, potato and Indian spices.

Corbett Cookie Bar Kitchen is going tropical and will be serving up green tea pina coladas--that means cool drinks for hot days, as well as well as unique treats--like their Twix candy pastries!

Snoep Winkel Farms is having a sale on shoulder roasts and ham steaks. They also have sausage pepper and onions... cook them together, and yum!

Snoep Winkel Farms will be here this week with grass fed, free range beef cubes and other free-range cuts of meat. Grab their farm fresh eggs at $4.50 a dozen.  Best of all... they now have bratwurst at Market! 

Our Woods Maple is joining us with maple crumbles, a homemade maple topping that's great for yogurt, lattes, and so much more.  Available in a couple different sizes.


Top Of The Mountain Honey carries a variety of local honey. Last week they unveiled their new Pina Colada flavor! We've tried it and can confirm that not only is it fantastic, but that it will be available with their other great honey flavors this week.
